Landini is top tractor choice for diverse farming operation

Having not purchased a new tractor in the past 10 years, Dave Mackenzie, manager of farming operations at A G Simpson in Fife, had a free choice of tractor make and dealership when choosing a new fleet.

"We decided what sort of machines we needed and set about finding them, taking price, specification and residual value into account in arriving at our final choice," he says.

The solution was found in the Landini range and Kinross dealer George Colliar, with the result that five of the ARGO Group machines are now the frontline tractors for a diverse arable, beef and pig farming operation.

Most field work for the 1000-acre arable enterprise – growing barley, wheat and beans for feed – is handled by a contractor. But the most powerful of the five new tractors, a 162/171hp Landini 7-165 Techno, tackles a big workload baling straw, hay and silage, as well as all haulage related to the livestock units.

These comprise a 200-cow suckler herd, 700-sow outdoor pig unit and 1200-ewe sheep flock, which are also served by the smallest of the new machines, a 110hp Landini 5-115H equipped with a TurboLift loader.

A trio of Landini’s Landpower six-cylinder tractors provides plenty of power for field work and driving a mobile feed mill and mixer but also easy-to-use controls for operators whose main focus is on looking after livestock rather than things mechanical.
